Skin Tone and Colour
As we age, changes to the colour of our skin are common. Not only can our skin start to look sallow and dull, we can also start to see areas of pigmentation change, commonly, an increased number of freckles, solar lentigines and patchy areas of uneven skin tone. Skin can begin to look dull, sallow and increasingly uneven. Changes in pigmentation can be one of the most physically visible signs of ageing.
It is essential to identify the cause of the abnormal pigmentation, to enable the practitioner to treat the problem, safely and effectively. Pigmentation is one of the most challenging skin problems facing the skin practitioner and it is essential to identify the ‘type’ of pigmentation before attempting treatment.
When skin is analysed correctly and a thorough history is taken, it is possible to achieve significant improvements to skins with pigmentation problems, leaving skin healthy, even toned and glowing.
Skin tone and colour can also affected by an increase in visible capillaries. It is common to see an increase in thread veins, spider naevi and telangiectasia. The barrier defence of the skin is often less resilient as we age, and skin is more prone to develop issues relating to vascular impairment. These issues can usually be treated very effectively, again evening out skin tone and restoring skin to optimum skin health.
