Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH)

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) occurs following a skin injury or inflammation. Acne can lead to PIH, which usually happens when areas of the skin have been damaged by re-occurring spots or picking of the skin. These marks may improve on their own over time or Spectra Gold Toning can be used to speed up the process and prevent any new spots from forming. Exposure to UVA/UVB rays can aggravate the condition. Similarly, traumatic scar or surgery scars can cause post inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
