Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes flaky, red skin covered with white/silvery scales. It often appears on elbows, knees and the scalp but can appear anywhere on the body. Psoriasis often presents as small isolated patches and can become itchy, sore and inflamed.
The severity of Psoriasis can vary, with some people experiencing minor irritation, while others have more severe symptoms that can become debilitating. It affects both men and woman equally and can start at any age, but usually develops in adults under 30 years of age.
Psoriasis is considered a chronic disease involving the immune system, where the bodies own immune system attacks healthy skin cells, increasing cellular turnover and resulting in an inflamed scaly appearance.
Psoriasis can run in families but can also be linked to stress triggers such as major life changes, illness and stress.
