Warts and Verruca
A verruca is a type of wart usually found on the bottom of the foot. Essentially it is the same as a common wart, however due to the weight of the body pressing on it, it is aesthetically different, and can be quite painful. Like other warts, verrucas are caused by strains of human papilloma virus (HPV).
Though unsightly, the main problem with verrucas is the pain and discomfort caused by the position of the verruca. They can spread from person to person by skin contact or contact with surfaces that are contaminated with the virus.
Warts are small, non-cancerous growths within the skin, which are caused by a viral infection in the skin cells. The virus is called the human papilloma virus (HPV) and there are more than 100 types of HPV to date. This virus causes an excess amount of keratin (protein) to develop in the top layer of the skin, creating a rough hard texture.
Though harmless and usually painless, warts can look cosmetically displeasing, causing embarrassment and anxiety to the sufferer.
Verrucas and warts can be stubborn to treat but we have effective methods in clinic that can help. Multiple treatments will be needed depending on the age of the verruca/wart.
