Tattoo Removal

Here at Face the Future Clinic, we offer two state of the art machines – Polaris Q Switched Ruby and Lutronic Spectra Q Switched Yag. This allows us to treat tattoos in a variety of colours and sizes. The tattoo removal treatment is carried out in a fast and effective manner.

 How does tattoo removal work?

An initial consultation will help assess which laser is most suitable for your skin type and the tattoo to be removed, sometimes a combination of both lasers is used to achieve the best possible results. Following your initial consultation, our expert laser practitioners will guide you through the process, explaining in detail how the treatment works, how it feels and what to expect afterwards. At each subsequent visit, we will assess the results achieved and adjust the laser energies to ensure the best possible results.

Q Switch Lasers generate a high-powered beam of light. The light is then absorbed by the tattoo ink particles, breaking them down into smaller pieces, enabling your body’s natural immune defences to absorb and disperse the ink. The tattoo will fade gradually over a series of treatments.

Duration of treatment – Treatment time varies depending upon the size of the tattoo, but treatment is generally between 15 - 30 minutes.

Anaesthesia required – None.

Downtime – An instant whitening of the skin (known as frosting) will occur post treatment, but this generally fades quickly. The area is likely to feel tender for a several hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours. Some tattoos will form blisters, which must be left to heal naturally.

Final results – Initially the tattoo is unlikely to look any different, but this will fade over the next 4 - 8 weeks as the body disperses the ink.

Suitable for – Anyone who has unwanted tattoos.

FAQs

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?
Treatment time varies depending upon the size of the tattoo, but treatment is generally between 15 - 30 minutes per session. Sessions will become shorter once the tattoo begins to fade.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Results will vary from person to person and the colours of the tattoo being removed, but generally you should start to notice your tattoo fading after 4-8 weeks.
DOES THE TREATMENT HURT AND HAVE ANY DOWNTIME?
Unfortunately, no method of tattoo removal is completely pain-free, most patients describe the sensation similar to the flick of a hot elastic band. Whilst mildly uncomfortable, most people tolerate treatment well and a skin cooling device is used to help reduce any discomfort. Post-treatment the area is likely to feel tender for several hours and can be red and swollen for up to 48 hours, therefore extra care must be taken. Some tattoos will form blisters, which must be left to heal naturally otherwise scarring may occur. The skin may become lighter or darker and a loss of natural tanning ability in the treatment area, however this shouldn’t occur if all recommended aftercare is followed consistently.
WHO IS THIS TREATMENT SUITABLE FOR?
Anyone who has unwanted tattoos, however certain allergies and medical history may affect treatment.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE NEEDED?
This depends on many factors, the density and colour of the inks and the age of the tattoo. Amateur tattoos are generally faster to remove, whereas professional tattoos vary considerably. Some may take up to 15 treatments. Treatment sessions are every 8-10 weeks apart, allowing time for the wound to heal between treatments.
